Classic Winnie-the-Pooh

Egmont UK

Free on Apple iOS for first story, £1.99 after this

Classic Winnie-the-Pooh is an app which allows you to enjoy one free classic Pooh story, with interactive illustrations.

Said illustrations are beautiful and the interactions clever; as the story unfolds, you can tickle Pooh or tap Christopher Robin to prompt actions from either, including bees buzzing around a worried Pooh’s head or Christopher Robin blowing up a larger and larger balloon.

You can choose whether to have the story read out to you by a pleasant and well-acted male narrator or read the story yourself, and the first tale available is that of Pooh deciding to raid a honey’s nest by floating up to it on a balloon. No spoilers, but the climax is pretty gripping.

You can then choose to buy further Pooh stories for £1.99, which is pretty expensive, but there is a child lock in place, which is neat (but also involves multiplication which, past a certain level, I find challenging…)

What really makes this app are the illustrations; they are, of course, E.H.Shepard’s from the original Pooh books.  And of course, the writing of A.A.Milne about the adventures of Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, the terminally depressed Eeyore  and the much-teased Christopher Robin.

A fun, free tale for kids to enjoy and adults to enjoy reading out and looking at.
