WATCH: ‘Flappy Bird’ creator Dong Nguyen is back with a brand new game – Swing Copters

It’s been a tough few months since overnight sensation Flappy Bird was first removed from app stores around the world. We’ve not known what to do with ourselves – our phones have collected dust in the corner, neglected, and long train journeys have been spend staring out of the window trying to fight back the tears.

Today is a special day though. Dry your eyes, for Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen is back with a brand new title – a deep, punishing, tactical turn-based strategy game. Just kidding, it’s called ‘Swing Copters’ and it looks pretty much identical to Flappy Bird. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? We don’t even know any more.

Take a look at the footage above and decide for yourself. Whilst Nguyen’s now immediately recognisable art style is obviously apparent, the gameplay looks largely the same as Flappy Bird too – only flipped from horizontal to vertical. Instead of tapping the screen to make your character flap its wings, you now tap the screen to change the direction it’s headed. Instead of flying through Super Mario-style warp pipes, you now have to avoid girders with hammers swinging from them.

Swing Copters will be out on both Android and iOS some time next week, free to download. If you want to remove the in-game ads you can choose to pay 99p to do so.
