Toys R Us bringing 8-inch Tabeo tablet to kids in time for Christmas

We’re sorry to mention the holiday season this early on (the shops won’t be far behind), but Toys R Us is soon to start gunning for the hot item under the tree as the company prepares to release an update to its Tabeo kids tablet.

The 8-inch slate, named Tabeo e2, is an inch bigger than its predecessor,  packing a  dual-core 1 GHz CPU, 1GB RAM and 8GB of in-built storage, though there’s room for upgrade with an up to 64GB microSD card slot. Its  1,024 x 768 multitouch display is run on Android 4.2, which comes pre-loaded with plenty of games and educational apps designed for kids aged from 6 – 11 and allows for easy parental control. Don’t expect the functionality of more mainstream, high-tech tablets, then, but rest assured that users will be kept safe. You can even choose between blue and pink colours for those that care.

Right now we know that the device will launch in October, though the date doesn’t get any more specific than that. In the US it’s priced at an attractive $150, meaning it’ll will likely set you back around £100 if/when it reaches the UK. It should be enough to keep the little ones busy while you balance cooking the turkey with burning the potatoes.
