Our top iPhone apps for this week. Apps are the reason why we love our smartphones so much, it’s like having tons of useful little assistants at your beck and call. So why not recruit some new ones to get you through the week!

ink Hunter (iOS only)

Price: Free

Why did no one do this sooner? Tattoos used to have a bad rep but in the 21st century, your kid’s primary school teacher probably has a sick sleeve under that formal shirt. Getting a tattoo should not be a whimsical decision, time and research should be taken, and that’s where ink Hunter comes in. You can preview some ink on your body to see if you can pull it off!

There are pre-loaded designs for you to mess around with, or even better, upload your own unique design. You can take a picture of the result to show your tattoo artist, or better yet, send to your mum for hilarity and a roasting. Android and Windows Phone versions are currently in development.

A Game of Thrones: Get into the books (iOS only)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

Game of Thrones fans your answer is here. If you’re like us, you’ve been looking to get into the books after watching the awesome TV series, this app is your answer. A well polished app which takes into account how many series you’ve already watched of the popular HBO mega hit series. You get started off where you left off in the series.

But do bear in mind there are subtle differences between the books and the TV series. More characters are introduced in the books, Daenerys Targaryen has another awesome bodyguard called Strong Belwas, who was sadly not included in the show. What’ll happen is you’ll be compelled to read from the beginning, to enrich your Game of Thrones experience.

Billy – Keep track of your subscriptions (iOS only)

Price: Free

The simplest ideas are usually the best ones. Billy the squirrel is here to keep track your ever expanding list of subscriptions. We live in a multi-media society, in which there are so many things to subscribe for. You’re bound to forget one or two. Here’s a list of things that are probably siphoning your account right now: Netflix, gym membership, Spotify, the list goes on.

Billy has a library full of subscription based services to offer a clean look when perusing your expenditure. Popular services like Netlfix and billers such as EE and O2 are all here. You can even take into account spending for in-app purchases, Tinder being a good example. If you have a really obscure service, custom subscriptions can be made, the icons could use a bit of imagination, but they get the job done.

Reddit (iOS and Android)

Price: Free

It’s 2016 and Reddit has finally released an official app. The official Reddit app has been in beta for quite a while, the bulletin board app is the go to place for news with millions of users posting unique and breaking stories. Reddit dubs it self as “the front page of the Internet,” a name quite fitting for the ever popular site.

Reddit took notes from unofficial Reddit app, Alien Blue. They’ve understandably adopted a simple look with a lot of white involved, to offer a clear reading experience. The official update now allows long pressing to save photos, rating prompts and uploaded images automatically save to your albums. It’s a great effort from Reddit, but it’s not as good as Reddit is Fun, which is available on Android. This shouldn’t deter you as the content will keep you entertained for hours.

Upmind (iOS only)

Price: Free (in-app purchases)

Upmind won’t make you fluent in another language but it really does help you with vocabulary, making hand waving and your broken Spanish a bit more comprehensible to the locals in Barcelona. Upmind gets you to choose a selection of words and will test your memory by asking you what it is in your chosen language.

Upmind keeps things engaging with random GIFs you’re sure to know if you’ve been on the Internet long enough, they also help you associate words, which helps with memorisation. There’s also the reward element, upon completing a test you earn tokens to unlock more challenges and levels. Upmind differs from the popular Duolingo with a more games approach. If you’re looking to lightly learn a new language Upmind is perfect for you.
