The Samsung Galaxy S6 is a gorgeous phone, but Samsung sacrificed a waterproof body seen on the S5 for its sleek design. Samsung has listened to those who have were disappointed by this and released the waterproof Samsung Galaxy S6 Active.

This is the latest in the Galaxy Active series. The latest details were outed by AT&T and, as the name suggests, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is a rugged phone. Samsung has waterproofed the phone and marketed it at outdoor types.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active specs

Measuring at 146.9 x 73.6 x 8.8mm, the S6 Active is a bit chunkier than the regular S6. It comes with an IP68 rating, which is a military rating for ‘water resistance and to withstand dust, shock, vibration, temperature extremes, humidity, and high altitude,’ according to AT&T.

You can submerge the device in up to 1.5m of water for 30 minutes. It’s also shock resistant and can withstand drops onto flat surfaces from up to 4 feet. The battery is larger than the regular S6’s 2,550mAh battery, too. It measures at 3,500mAh, which Samsung claims will give you up to 15-20 hours juice on a single charge.

Elsewhere, the S6 Active is the same as the regular Samsung Galaxy S6. It has a 5.1-inch display with a Quad HD super AMOLED at 2,560 x 1,440p resolution. Internal storage stands at 32GB, whilst it comes with both a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front camera.

Full specs from AT&T’s site read:

  • Display: The Galaxy S6 active has a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED® display with 577ppi that automatically adapts to the content you’re viewing – even outdoors.
  • Camera: With a double-tap of the home button, the 16MP rear-facing and 5MP front-facing cameras launch faster than ever. Auto-Real time High Dynamic Range (HDR) captures clever shots in virtually any light, and the front camera’s wide-angle lens allows you to take epic selfies.
  • Operating System: Android„¢ 5.0.2 (Lollipop).
  • Processor: The Samsung Galaxy S6 active comes with Octa-core 64-bit processor, Samsung’s fastest and most powerful processor in a smartphone.
  • Storage: 32GB of internal memory
  • Voice Calling: HD Voice capable.
  • Battery Life: The Samsung Galaxy S6 active features a 3500mAh and embedded wireless charging technology that works with most wireless charging pads on the market, so there’s no more looking for a cord or place to plug in.

  • Business Ready: Samsung KNOX provides security and protection right out of the box, along with support for MDM partners, making device management easy for IT administrators.
