Snapchat Memories saves and archives snaps

Snapchat Memories has today been introduced and it will make it easier for you to save snaps and archive them for when you’re feeling nostalgic.

Memories gives users a new way to save snaps and videos to a whole new section called (you guest it) Memories. It can be accessed by swiping from the camera section. Saved photos are organised chronologically with suggested keywords, making it easier to trawl through your Memories.

Snapchat Memories will suggest keywords like “dog” or “Hawaii” for example. It will also be able to recognise objects in the pictures, but it won’t be on the same level as Google’s smart searches.

Re-snapping old memories and hiding naughty ones

Snaps saved in Memories can be reposted to your story. Snapchat will add a vintage frame to mark it as an old snap, but Snaps little than a day over, can be reposted as is. A great way to post a snap you sent your mate, you wish was on your story.

A special drawer has also been included for hiding snaps that prove to be a bit risqué. Its called “My Eyes Only” and is locked with a code or passphrase. Its so secure that Snapchat can’t even unlock it remotely, so do not forget it.

“We realised that Snapchatters want to feel comfortable showing their Memories to friends while they’re hanging out together,” it said in a press release.

Snapchat are going against their original message, as its ephemeral status is slowly fading, just like a snap. Temporary pictures is what attracted user to Snapchat in the first place, with the unique feature, Snapchat surpassed Twitter in daily user numbers. Twitter receives 140 million daily users while Snapchat now gets roughly 150 million.

The update is rolling out now, simply check the Play Store or App Store if you haven’t already received it. There was no mention of a data cap on Memories.
