Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 to be manufactured by Samsung

It’s been rumoured for quite a while but today we finally have some confirmation that Samsung will indeed be manufacturing the newest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset.

The company has finished work on their newest 14nm LPP(Low-Power Plus) die and announced it will now begin mass production of the chipset. The technology will be used in Samsung’s newest Exynos 8 series chips due to release later this year, but that’s not the only place we’re going to see it. Turns out the underlying chipset will also be the thing which powers the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, signalling the beginning of a long partnership (while also confirming a lot of old rumours).

It’s a no-brainer for Samsung really, especially considering that Qualcomm were basically begging for help after the whole disaster surrounding the various thermal issues plaguing the older 810. In a world where money is everything, this is just another pocket for Samsung to claw extra profits from.
