Phone-controlled toilet susceptible to hack

We’re all living in connected homes these days, with our fridges and even washing machines being capable of connecting to other devices, although you may want to disconnect the toilet. According to  TrustWave your luxury smart toilet can be hacked using the default bluetooth pairing code.

The Satis toilet is a £4000 so-called “smart toilet” which can be controlled using Satis’ Android app. The app gives you access to operating the lighting, flushing and bidet functions, but anyone can connect to the toilet using Bluetooth and the default “0000” PIN.

This could mean you’ll soon find yourself getting a wash from underneath when you least expect it, but at least the Satis features a air-dry function — so you can quickly dry off after.

Information Security firm Trustwave has released a public advisory warning people who use the toilet to be careful as hijackers could potentially “raise the water usage and utility cost” of the owner of the Satis.

We tried refraining from toilet jokes but I guess LIXIL, the Japanese manufacturer of the Satis, has found itself in a sticky situation.
