Some iCloud users to lose 20GB of allowance

Some iCloud users may see their accounts getting a little more full at the end of September as Apple has announced plans to remove the 20GB of free storage it gave to MobileMe users two years ago.

Apple offered the 20GB to MobileMe subscribers who had paid $99 annually, and didn’t want to have to downgrade to the 5GB of space they would get when the iCloud switchover was complete.

Originally the deal was due to end at the end of June last year, but that was later extended to the end of September 2012, before Apple took the decision to add another 12 months to the deal.

If you have been enjoying the extra storage in iCloud, then you’ll have to fork out $40 a year.

For those of you who have over 5GB stored on their iCloud accounts, then you will be required to upgrade to ensure that your account doesn’t stop working — albeit temporarily.
