It turns out the Oculus Rift isn’t speaking for itself at CES this week. Oculus CEO Brendan Iribe has been talking to Eurogamer about both the hiring of legendary game developer John Carmack and internal development on software for the VR headset.

“He’s working on a lot of exciting tech, but his heart and soul and history certainly lies in the game-development side,” Iribe told Engadget. “That’s always been Epic’s philosophy. And it’s what allowed them to make what they made. It’s certainly been id’s philosophy in the past. It’s been John Carmack’s philosophy — you gotta eat your own dog food here, and develop internal content also.”

Basically, Iribe is confirming that that company will be developing its own software to show off the Rift. Until now the tech has relied on third-party sources for press demoes and the like.

But the Rift’s gaming conncections won’t be stopping there. The Oculus CEO promsied that we’ll be seeing more developers sign up to the tech in 2014, adding: “You’ll see, over the next six to 12 months, if you monitor the careers page, we are putting up our team out there. We wanna make this a very open company. Pay attention to that page and you’ll see more and more game developers showing up.”

Essentially, Oculus could soon be making its very own games. We’re certainly interested to see what the company can cook up with talent like Carmack on board.
