Octa-core handset, Alcatel Onetouch Idol X+, heading to Europe

We usually think of quad-core as the gold standard in smartphone processors, but Alcatel disagreees. The company has confirmed that it’s bringing its octa-core handset to Europe next month.

Named the Alcatel Onetouch Idol X+, the device boasts a 5 inch 1080p display with an octa-core, 2 GHz MediaTek processor. Despite the many, many cores, Alcatel claims the chip reduces power consumption by 18 per cent decoding HD video when stacked up next to quad-core chips. Pretty specific stat, that.

There’s also a 13.1-megapixel camera on hand and the device stays mega-thin at 7.9mm. Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is the OS of choice as expected.

So next month it is if you want to get involved in the octa-future.
