Following in the footsteps of EE, O2 and Vodafone’s 4G networks went live today.

O2 customers will have access to faster speeds in London, Leeds and Bradford while Vodafone’s coverage is limited to the capital for now. However, by the end of the year, both networks are aiming to have coverage in  London, Birmingham, Bradford, Coventry, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield. When the full rollout is complete 98% of the UK will have 4G coverage from at least one network.

Vodafone and O2’s entry into the 4G market means that the networks will be fighting over customers, with Vodafone aiming to tempt users with an offer of 3 months unlimited data usage and a one year free subscription to Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV.

However, both O2 and Vodafone are priced a little higher than EE with the cheapest contracts starting at £26 per month.
