Nokia exec ‘less likely’ to nab Microsoft top spot

Ever since it was announced that Stephen Ballmer would be leaving his position as CEO of Microsoft, former Nokia boss Stephen Elop has been one of the favourites to replace him. Well, he has in the tech industry at least. But now it’s reportedly looking ‘less likely’ that the Nokia exec will nab the top spot.

Bloomberg reports that, instead, Ford CEO Alan Mulally and Microsoft’s head of cloud, Satya Nadella, are the front runners for the position. Both Elop and Skype president Tony Bates are now said to be ‘less likely’ to score the job.

Apparently Mulally could assume the role of a more interim CEO that would take care of the company until an internal CEO takes over. Ford itself remains tight-lipped on the plans.

It was previously reported that Elop could significantly change up the company if placed in charged. Company chairman Bill Gates has recently noted that the search to find a new CEO is ‘complex’, so expect a range of twists and turns before we reach the end of the road. We could see the Nokia exec crowned king yet.
