Here collection to be discontinued on Windows 10

Microsoft has called time on the popular HERE maps service, discontinuing all development and announcing that all apps with be pulled from both Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.

Oddly, Windows Phone 8 will continue to receive the services despite their removal from newer versions of the store. Users will need to downgrade if they want to continue using the applications.

The reason for their removal is pretty simple; the company doesn’t think the applications warrant new applications. It’s certainly an abrupt ending, especially considering that the HERE suite used to be one of the most popular services and was unique to the Windows Phone platform. That said, since selling the HERE service to automotive manufacturers Audi, BMW and Daimler, Microsoft hasn’t really cared too much about holding onto them.

Current users will have until March 29 to download the HERE apps, but they will cease to function come June 30 unless you roll back to Windows Phone 8. You have been warned.
