Fitbit co-founder James Park says company will ‘remain the same’

Google has claimed it has completed the takeover of fitness wearable maker Fitbit, but the US Department of Justice says that the investigation of the acquisition is still ongoing.

The deal has come under scrutiny by regulators worldwide due to concerns about privacy and data but the £1.5m takeover was cleared by the European Union in December.

The US Department of Justice released a statement on Thursday saying it had not yet come to a conclusion regarding the deal.

Fitbit has sold more than 120 million devices in over 100 countries since its inception in 2007 and has remained one of the most recognisable watchmakers since.

Fitbit co-founder James Park said: “On our own, we pushed the bounds of what was possible from the wrist, pioneering step, heart rate, sleep, and stress tracking,’ he said.

“With access to Google’s incredible resources, knowle, dge and global platform, the possibilities are truly limitless.”
