The official Facebook for Windows 8 app will be released on October 17 to coincide with the launch of Windows 8.1, according to the Windows Spain Twitter account.

Microsoft first announced that an official Facebook app will be coming to the Windows Store back at Build in June.

Other apps that were announced were the likes of Flipboard and an NFL Fantasy Football app — although release dates for these remain unknown.

Users have demanded a Facebook app on Windows 8 ever since the operating system launched last year, and it would be fitting for the app to launch alongside the Windows 8.1 update.
