Expect an Apple Watch S not Apple Watch 2

Apple may be releasing a new Apple Watch, but it won’t be a significant upgrade.

Rumours are swirling that Apple will be hosting an event to announce the iPhone 5SE, iPad Air 3 and Apple Watch 2. But don’t expect anything special from the Apple Watch. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster predicts the Apple Watch will get a minor hardware refresh in March, not enough to merit being called the Apple Watch 2.

Munster said: “expect more of an “S” version with similar design, upgraded components including processor[,] battery, new band styles. Unlikely to have a wireless radio, which would allow standalone” (i.e. decoupled from iPhone).

Apple are known to have soft upgrade cycles in-between new devices, as seen on the iPhone with the ‘S’ variants. We’ll see what Apple has in store for us with the event expected to be on March 15. Excited? Slightly.
