Xbox One and PS4 owners looking forward to EA Sports’ newest addition in its hugely popular Fifa series are in store for some bad news.

The developer has announced that Fifa World Cup Brazil, which allows players to compete as their favourite nation in the world’s biggest football tournament, won’t be available on the two next-gen consoles.

“We wanted to create the best game we could that could reach as many people as possible,” said the game’s Lead Producer Mat Prior. “The way to do that was to make our best game yet on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.”

Consequently, Fifa World Cup Brazil will be available as a standalone title only on the Xbox 360 and PS3 in April.

Perhaps in an effort to appease football gaming enthusiasts that wanted to play the new game on their brand new next-gen platforms, EA plans to release World Cup content for Fifa 14 Ultimate Team instead.
