We have been waiting for this day for a while, with Apple being without a SVP of Retail since 2012, but today it has been announced Burberry’s CEO Angela Ahrendts is to to take up the long-vacant position.

Ahrendts is one of three women running a FTSE 100 company, and is widely credited with strengthening the Burberry brand. Despite seemingly being a strange move for a fashion CEO, Ahrendts isn’t the first, with former CEO of Yves-Saint Laurent, Paul Deneve moving to Apple to work on “special projects” back in July.

Burberry has championed technology and Apple under Ahrendts tenure, with the company using the iPhone 5s to capture its Spring/Summer 2014 show for London Fashion Week.

In a statement released by Ahrendts she said:

“I am profoundly honored to join Apple in this newly created position next year, and very much look forward to working with the global teams to further enrich the consumer experience on and offline.

“I have always admired the innovation and impact Apple products and services have on people’s lives and hope in some small way I can help contribute to the company’s continued success and leadership in changing the world.”
