Publisher 2K Games has announced that its popular console title BioShock is making its way to iOS devices.

The mobile port will be compatible with a range of Apple smartphones and tablets including the iPad 4, iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air, plus the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C.

There is no word yet of an Android-compatible version or of the price and release date of the game.

If 2K’s solid Grand Theft Auto ports are anything to go by, we can expect BioShock to be a premium priced game with no annoying in-app purchases.

As with most mobile games, BioShock for iOS will come complete with touch-optimised controls and iPhone game controller support. Aside from that, however, 2K has emphasised that little has been changed to the title gamers know and love.

Initial reactions to early previews of the port claim that it has received an inevitable graphics downgrade and that the controls can be fiddly when competing against multiple enemies.

BioShock was originally released for the Xbox 360 back in 2007 and later appeared on the PlayStation 3 in 2008 and OSX in 2009.

The original release was a critical favourite, going on to receive several game of the year accolades.
