Acer Iconia A3 hands-on

Acer was out in force at IFA, and its booth was sizeable — although it only had very few new products to show, most of which were buried amongst the older lines.

The Iconia A3 is one of the newbies, and it’s a 10-inch Android tablet which is available for a rather low price of around ‚¬249 for a WiFi-only model.

The A3 isn’t going to blow you away, but it does have a lot of features you’d expect from more expensive tablets, such as a quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, although the processor is clocked at a rather slow 1.2GHz.

On-board the A3 is the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system, and despite the disappointing clock speed, everything seemingly ran smoothly.

Whilst it ran smoothly, it didn’t look great, with a rather disappointing 1280×800 resolution, meaning you’re getting 149 ppi — much lower than the Retina iPad’s 264ppi.

Viewing angles however are relatively decent, thanks to the IPS display.

The Iconia A3 comes with either 16 or 32GB worth of storage, which is expandable through micro SD, and features “immersive” Doly Digital Plus speakers, although it was impossible to try those out given the background noise.

Bluetooth 4.o, Micro USB, and WiFi are also along for the ride.

The Iconia A3 may be the ideal choice of cheap tablets, but we won’t know until we get to put it through its paces in a full on review.
