Motorola Edge expected to launch early next month

Motorola has announced its flagship smartphone series will feature two 5G compatible smartphones.

The US vendor unveiled the Motorola Edge and Edge+ yesterday (April 22) during a virtual online event.

Both smartphones use the latest version of Android’s 10 OS, plus are 5G ready and are expected to release in early May.

However only one of the smartphones will be coming to the UK with the Edge available from £549 from O2, John Lewis Partners, Amazon and Argos.

It features a 6.7-inch 90-degrees edge display that has a refresh rate of 90Hz and comes equipped with a triple-camera system.

This consists of a 64MP main lens, an 16MP ultra-wide lens with Macro Vision and an 8MP telephoto lens.

The Edge is powered by a Snapdragon 765 chipset and also includes a 4,500mAh battery which has 18W TurboPower wired charging.

Customers can either choose between a 4GB or 6GB of RAM variant, while there is 128GB of built in memory, which is expandable to 1TB via a microSD card.

It is available in either black or magenta colours.

Motorola Edge+

The second smartphone is the Motorola Edge+ which will not be coming to the UK.

It will be available in Italy, the Nordics and Serbia according to Motorola, while the price is substantially more at €1,199.99.

The chipset in the Edge+ is a Snapdragon 865 and allows for support to both mmWave and sub-6Ghz frequencies.

It features a similar display to the Edge but has a more enhanced camera system that includes a 108MP main sensor, plus an 8MP telephoto lens, 16MP ultra-wide angle lens with built-in Macro Vision, and a 25MP front-facing camera.

It comes with a 5,000mAh battery, with 18W TurboPower charging and 15W wireless charging.

The Edge+ has 12GB of RAM and 256GB of memory and is available in either ‘smoky sangria’ or grey.

The Edge+ also comes with dual stereo speakers which Motorola claims can provide the “loudest, most powerful audio on a smartphone.”
