Apple’s new iPhone is a budget handset called the iPhone SE that is the same size as the previous iPhone 8. The iPhone SE will cost £419. So let’s see what you get for your money before the release date of the 24th April.

You can get the SE in 64GB, 128GB & 256GB but prices for these models are not known yet. The design is very similar of that of the iPhone 8 meaning if you have any iPhone 8 cases then you could use them for the new iPhone SE.

The SE also has the same 4.7-inch Retina HD Display with TrueTone Technology that adapts to lighting around the user to help with the overall use.

iPhone users will be pleased with the reintroduction of the Touch ID home button that will be built into the bezel of the front of the phone. This will allow users to use the fingerprint security over the face ID you get on the iPhone X or iPhone 11 range.

The phone will have no notch instead you get a bezel at the top of the display that will house the selfie camera.

The bottom of the phone you will find the lighting connector however there is no return for the 3.5mm headphone jack which is not a big surprise with the push of true wireless headphones.

Under the bonnet, you have an A13 Bionic chipset that can also be found in the new iPhone 11 meaning its twice as fast as the previous SE model that was out in 2016. This will allow the phone to operate quicker. However, reports are the battery life will only be 12 hours so only expect the phone to be charged for the full day. Apple has also mentioned a separate fast charger and most of us have a power bank so not a big problem. This phone will support wireless charging. This phone is also IP67 rated meaning its dust and water-resistant.

The phone will also come with IOS 13 so the phone will have the same features as the most recent iPhones.  The iPhone SE has a camera that is impressive with a 12MP sensor and f/1.8 aperture for fairly decent low-light photos. Basically making the camera better then what they did with the XR’s camera and you get the portrait mode.

The iPhone SE will be available in 3 colours: White, Black & Red.

Here is what Uswitch think about the new iPhone SE:

Ru Bhikha, mobiles expert at Uswitch.com, comments:

“The original iPhone SE won an army of fans when it landed four years ago, appealing to smartphone users who wanted a cheaper, more compact Apple device.

“Budgets couldn’t be tighter at the moment, so the arrival of the new SE lands at an opportune time, especially priced at an attractive £419.

“The SE is Frankenstein’s monster in a ball dress, a glamorous package with the body of an iPhone 8 and the brain of a more modern device.  “With a pocket-friendly 4.7-inch screen, A13 Bionic chip, 3GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage, this phone is powerful enough for daily life, but it won’t give you the bells and whistles of top-end devices.

“Smartphone fans used to gadgets with four or five cameras might not like the thought of coping with only one 12MP lens, but the set-up should be more than enough for the casual user.

“The return of the traditional Touch ID on the Home button could prove popular for those not won over by Face recognition and it’s well-documented quirks. “Smartphone users, wedded to the iOS platform but not prepared to break the bank, will likely flock to the new SE, if the popularity of its predecessor is anything to go by.

“The price looks even better value when you consider it includes a year’s subscription to Apple TV+, worth about £60.”
