Jam Audio are no strangers to the wireless speaker with there chill series that we have reviewed now the turn of the swing series and in particular the Hang Around speaker. This costs £39.99 was £59.99 so it’s still in the budget section of the market. The main features of this speaker are:

  • 20 hours playtime
  • 30-meter Bluetooth range
  • Rugged Design
  • Waterproof
  • Ability to link with a second speaker for stereo sound.

The hang around speaker is designed with a rugged feel to it and also comes with an IP67 rating meaning its water and dustproof which means you can take it to the beach or even have it in the shower basically anywhere it’s even submersible up to 1m for 30 mins.

In the box its very simple: 1 speaker, 1 USB to Micro USB that you will find tucks into the bottom of the speaker which is ideal for when you want to charge on the move. However, the cable was a little tight when trying to place back after use.

Design-wise its very light at less than a 1 Ibs (0.73 Ibs) in weight and size-wise it can easily fit in your pocket so easy to take around. The speaker is built really for every day and the little feet on the base allows you to place it anywhere without any of the sound being lost. This speaker also has a little strap allowing you to hang this up. Personally, I used this when in the shower and it hangs perfectly.

The speaker design is also very simple you have 3 buttons even though fist time I used this I was sure there was only 2.  You have a raised line in the middle of the X & O which is a multi-use button that controls the power, play/pause and Bluetooth connection and calls receiving or call cancelling option. The X & O symbols on the other hand simply control the volume and track control. Using this control set up is very simple and is something you see on a lot of other brands.

You will also find a removable cover at the bottom of the speaker and that is where your charging port and a 3.5mm port for a wired connection live this is also very standard when you compare other brands,

Inside the speaker, you are greeted by dual drivers and dual bass radiators that really do pack a punch. This allows the sound give you that bang for your buck as bass wise you get quite a punch but not to the level where it affects the overall sound.  The highs and lows perform really well allowing for vocals to sound really clear and when listening so something like Annie Lennox Walking On Broken Glass it really does perform very well considering its size.

Feature-wise this speaker is not packed with them but the one thing that does make me happy is you can buy a second hang around speaker pair them together and you have a very good stereo sound making it perfect for when you have friends over and are having that BBQ. However, be careful when in stereo mode as if you really increase the volume to the higher level is starts to distort when is annoying but if you have the sound on at a decent level you won’t have this issue.

Performance-wise as mentioned the sound is quite decent considering the price and with the added stereo sound it ticks the boxes for me. Battery wise you get a solid 20 hours of playback and this can be recharged in just 3 hours to give you a full charge which is not to bad considering the price. Bluetooth connectivity was also good it connected as soon as I turned it on for the first time as it went into pairing mode right away. Once connected you can have up to 30 meters range which I was also happy about but in testing, this was just short of the 30-meter range but still very acceptable.

Overall, Jam Audio’s Hang around is a great little rugged speaker designed for any environment and works underwater due to its IP67 rating. The sound quality considering the price is good and I love the chance to pair this with a second hang around for that stereo quality. If I had to find a negative it would be that you can’t use this on full volume in stereo mode as the sound is affected. The other negative was I found the inbuilt charge cable a bit tricky to put back after use. Apart from that its a great little summer speaker for a low price.
