YouTube are giving Perisocope a run for their money

YouTube are quietly building  a new app to compete with Periscope.

The new app from YouTube will be called Connect, according to VentureBeat. It seems YouTube believe live video is the future, pitting themselves against Twitter’s Periscope and Facebook Live. VentureBeat claims Connect will be available for iOS and Android. You can view videos on a smartphone as well as on desktops via YouTube.

It doesn’t seem to be really groundbreaking as Connect will allow users to tag each others, chat and archive content. Oh and of course allow users to watch and livestream footage. YouTube already has lives streaming capabilities but done through its Creator Studio.  But it’s limited and not as intuitive as Periscope. Celebrities use Periscope widely, Barcelona centre back Gerard Pique is a constant user.
