Whited00r reveal iOS 5 features for 2G, 3G iPhone and iPod Touch users

The clever code boffins at Whited00r have engineered a software update, Whited00r 5.1, which gives iPhone 2G and 3G users access to features and functionality only previously available via iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS and above.

The Whited00r site has a full installation guide but, naturally, accepts no responsibility if the update goes wrong – “This process is safe and tested, but you are doing this at your own risk. For this reason we suggest to backup your data (whited00r5 offers iCloud application to backup your Game saves). We absolutely recommend that you make a clean installation without restoring from a backup and we will not provide support if this rule is not respected.”

Why the update? The extra features will be welcomed by some users, while devoted Apple fans will see the firmware tweak as an unholy intervention –  so the real reason behind the update appears to be ‘because we could’.

Interestingly, Whited00r talk about Flash compatibility, detail many iOS 5 features like Reminders and a Dropbox themed iCloud alternative and say that their software is developed for low memory environments.
