One of the most downloaded iPhone apps of all time, The Weather Channel has re-launched on iOS with a new design and new content.

The app, which is free to download from iTunes, includes a new Social Weather feature that lets users become weather reporters by stating local conditions and viewing what other people in their area are saying about the forecast.

Going beyond the forecast, the app also has other new features such as enhanced weather reports and severe weather alerts and a new pollen index.

The Weather Channel claims that future updates will also add local news and video content to the app, alongside seasonal tools, including travel updates, flu reports and ski condition modules.

Leon Brown, Meteorologist, The Weather Channel UK, says: “We’ve redesigned the app to create a more streamlined view with better data, additional context and the opportunity for users to get involved through Social Weather. The social aspect provides  a deeper layer of data about what’s happening around them right now.”
