How to watch the Apple iPhone 7 event

The time is almost upon us. One of the biggest days in the tech calendar is here, and we’re going to make sure you don’t miss out on the Apple iPhone 7 event.

CEO Tim Cook is expected to take centre stage to help take the figurative silk curtains, off the anticipated iPhone 7. A lot of questions need to be answered, will the headphone jack go? Is there a dual-camera lens? Can we shower with it? All will be revealed at 17:00 BST/10:00 PT.

Also predicted to share the limelight is the Apple Watch 2. The wearable is expected to be massively improved over last year’s effort. Built-in GPS, improved water-resistance and possibly a design change. Considering it’s been almost a year since the original Apple Watch was released, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see the Apple Watch 2.

Below is how you can watch the whole event. We got you there, just sort out the snacks and beverages.

iPhone/iPad/Mac/Macbook

Fairly straight forward with native Apple devices. Simply go to Apple Special Event through Safari which is of course pre-installed in every Apple device.

A great bonus to viewing it on an Apple desktop is Picture-in-Picture. PiP allows users to staple the stream in one place, enabling the ability to tweet, edit and basically carry out any other tasks, without interrupting the viewing.

There should be a PiP icon in the bottom right of the stream, near the maximise button. Although it’s not guaranteed Apple will have PiP this time around.

Apple also recently revived its official Twitter account so it’s worth checking out during the stream.

Windows/Android

It gets trickier for non-Apple devices. Don’t fret the Apple iPhone 7 event is still possible. Apple recently made it easy to livestream for Windows 10, as long as you open the livestream in the Microsoft Edge Browser.

If you don’t fancy upgrading to Windows 10, here’s a work around:

  • Download and install VLC Media Player
  • Launch VLC
  • Navigate to the Media tab and select Open Network Stream (For Android go to the hamburger menu and select Stream)
  • Insert the following URL: http://appleliveevents-i.akamaihd.net/hls/live/222436/1609lijbsdfvoihbadfvohbsdfvljhb/master/4500/4500.m3u8?t=YWxpc2FtaXg=
  • Hit play when the time comes, doing so before the stated time will make it appear to be broken

Apple TV

If you’re the owner of a second or third generation Apple TV, you should be seeing the ‘Apple Events Channel’ prompting you with the local time of the Apple iPhone 7 event. Simply head to this channel at the stated time.

You’ll need to be on the latest update, 6.2, to make sure nothing goes wrong with the stream.
