Tesco Mobile are offering cheaper contracts to UK customers willing to allow adverts on their smartphone.

That’s all you have to do, watch an advert every third time you unlock your phone and you can save a bit of money every month. Tesco Mobile are working with a third party service called Unlockd to provide the adverts, every third time you unlock your smartphone.

Currently the service is available for Android devices running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and above. There are no plans to make this feature available for iOS, but expect it soon on Windows Phone.

“At Tesco Mobile we’re committed to offering customers great value, simplicity and choice with exceptional rewards. Tesco Mobile Xtras, powered by Unlockd’s unique mobile platform, provides our customers with the chance to make savings that really add up.

“This innovative new service is a UK exclusive and we’re excited that our customers get to benefit first from this new technology,” said Anthony Vollmer, CEO of Tesco Mobile.

Every little helps

New and existing Tesco Mobile customers can take advantage of the advert scheme, by simply downloading the Tesco Mobile Xtras app and signing up. To cover the additional data the app will use up, an additional free 200MB of data will be given each month.

Unlockd has previously partnered with major networks in the US and Australia to offer the same scheme. The Australian mobile technology company are also looking into giving users discounts for Spotify, Netflix or Amazon Instant video.

At the moment users will be able to save £3 off contracts, providing 21 days of advert viewing has been recorded. Contracts with Tesco start at £7.50 a month, which brings it down to £4.50.

It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking to save a few pounds, you can take advantage of the scheme right now.
