52 Pendolino trains are already kitted out and operational, with the remaining 21 Super Voyager trains in the process of being enabled by mid-summer. The WCML services operated by Virgin Trains see around 22.5 million passenger journeys per year.

Prices for standard class passengers range from unlimited access for £20 per month on contract, to 75p per 10 minute block on a pay as you go basis. These subscriptions are for a T-Mobile HotSpot account, meaning you can use all other T-Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots too.

The service was built in conjunction with Nomad Digital, the company behind similar Wi-Fi services offered on Southern trains from London Victoria to Brighton, and the Heathrow Express service from London Paddington to Heathrow Airport.

A similar, but slower, service is already available on all National Express trains running along the East Coast Main Line from London King’s Cross and is offered free to both first class and standard class passengers.
