The announcement comes following Ofcom’s recent UK Home Broadband Performance report revealing Virgin Media’s M125 package offers download speeds twice as fast as the UK average and the M250 is four times faster than the UK average

Virgin Media O2 is giving millions of customers a broadband speed boost at no extra cost.

The company’s M100 service moves to M125 and there is a 22 per cent uplift in average download speeds from 108Mbps to 132Mbps with upload speeds increasing from 10Mbps to 20Mbps.

M200 services will move to M250 and see average download speeds rise from 213Mbps to 264Mbps with upload speeds increasing from 20Mbps to 25Mbps.

Those eligible need to reboot their Hub by switching it off and on again or through the Virgin Media Connect app.

Those wanting to upgrade to the new M125 and M250 bundles can access them for the same price as the previous lower tier speeds- with the M125 starting from £26 per month and the M250 from £30 per month.

Jeff Dodds, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Media O2, said: “Virgin Media O2 set out with a clear aim to upgrade the UK, and giving millions of our customers enhanced value through our latest broadband speed boost is another step towards this.

“As reliance on connectivity continues to grow – and at a time when value matters more than ever – we’re proud to be giving our customers even more, on us.”

Virgin Media O2 small business customers with a Voom 600, 800 and 1 Gig service will also see their upload speeds boosted from early next year.
