Canonical’s Ubuntu Edge could be first Ubuntu phone

Canonical has scheduled a “groundbreaking” event for later today, but it seems that the cat is out of the bag a little earlier than it hoped, with the Ubuntu Edge making its rounds after Google+ user Cassidy James leaked press images.

Whilst not much is known about the Ubuntu Edge, it is an incredibly good looking device, with beautiful tapered edges — in-keeping with its “Edge” branding.

The phone also appears to be running Ubuntu Touch, although this is a no brainer, as Canonical is the company behind the OS.

This is the first time that Canonical has built its own smartphone, with the OS currently available to certain Android users only.

Canonical will also beat its OEM partners to market, although it’s currently not yet known who will manufacturer a Ubuntu Touch phone, so it’s just as well.

We’ll have more for you when Canonical finally announces the Ubuntu Edge, and will hopefully have some hands-on as soon as we can.
