HTC has announced the HTC One Max, and it’s a Phablet that’s hoping to take on the vast array of other larger-than-the-average smartphones currently on the market. Here at What Mobile we were initially cynical of the tablet form factor, but there are a few we have come to know and love over their short period of time with us.

So without further adieu here are our Top 5 Phablets available to buy now.

The Acer Liquid S1 isn’t the most capable of all the Phablets but it is one of the cheapest, and that will always work in the phones favour. Sure the screen isn’t perfect but if you want to dip your toes into the world of Phablets, then you can’t really go wrong for less than £300.

[alert type=alert-blue ]4) Samsung Galaxy Mega[/alert]

We loved the Samsung Galaxy Mega, we really did. It was the first super-sized Phablet we tried and whilst it was underpowered the screen was both vibrant and big — two huge pluses in our minds. We’d like to see Samsung launch a successor to the Galaxy Mega, with a larger than 6.3-inch screen.

[alert type=alert-blue ]3) Samsung Galaxy Note 3[/alert]

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has all the right tools to be the perfect Phablet device. It’s fast, has a high-resolution screen which is incredibly vibrant and clear, and also comes with a stylus. It is not the largest Phablet around either, meaning it will fit comfortably in your hand. Shame about the cheap plastic back which has been made to look like leather.

[alert type=alert-blue ]2) LG G2[/alert]

The LG G2 is by far the smallest Phablet, at just 5.2 inches. To us, this is a minimum screen size to actually even be considered a Phablet. If you’re looking for a powerful smartphone that has a brilliantly detailed and vibrant screen, then yes the LG G2 could be perfect for you. Unfortunately Phablet fanboys, will think this is just too small.

[alert type=alert-blue ]1) Sony Xperia Z Ultra[/alert]

By far our favourite Phablet of the moment is the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. It’s big, and we mean really big. The screen is beautifully high-res and the phone itself doesn’t feel too heavy or too thick. To us, this is the reigning champion of the Phablet market.
