A new rail planner application has been released for Android, offering a number of live features to help plan routes or check on current train running information.

The ‘Rail Planner Live’ app, built by Thales UK, is powered by the National Rail Enquiries existing web-based online journey planner and live departure boards, giving accurate and up-to-the-minute information.

With an intuitive interface and special options for alerts and monitoring of routes made regularly by commuters, the Android application also shows ticket pricing information and details of incidents that might cause delays or cancellations. Another feature includes ‘get me home’ to quickly plan a route back to your nominated home station in seconds, and widgets for the homescreen that can be regularly updated – and retain information even if you lose network coverage.

Rail Planner Live is available now on Android Market for an introductory price of £2.99 (normally £4.99). It will be released for other smartphone platforms later in 2010.
