Tesco Mobile and EE engage in cringeworthy Twitter rap battle

Tesco Mobile and EE took part in an embarrassingly bad rap battle yesterday over social media, proving that these sort of stunts don’t always come across as funny.

Sometimes it’s a refreshing thing for corporate social network accounts to be a little quirky. It’s helps to reinforce the fact that there’s real people monitoring the profiles rather than a bot intent on world domination through high follower counts.

Other times, it’s downright appalling and unbearable. This latest encounter between Tesco and EE falls into the latter, as it manages to be one of the most cringeworthy pieces of social media exchanges witnessed in quite a while.

The two companies were taunted by a band called The Tailormade, who tweeted:

“@tescomobile Are you the guys good at rhyming or is it @EE that has, perfect lyrical timing?”

What ensued was a god-awful attempt at both rapping and humour, culminating in an exchange that was funny for all the wrong reasons…
