Specs leak for the LG G3, and they’re pretty impressive

When the LG G2 released just six months ago, we gave it a solid review of 7.6. It had a nice display and a top-notch battery, but it wasn’t really excellent enough in any one particular area to be worthy of the title of ‘flagship smartphone’, particularly from a company the size of LG.

It seems that LG feels the same, as now they’re already attempting to better it. The LG G3 is set for release some time within the next two months, and its specifications have just leaked for the first time. We wanted more than what the G2 offered, and it would seem that that’s exactly what LG is giving us.

Some smart types over at an LG fan forum  discovered that US carrier Sprint’s website contained a small chunk of hidden code which outlined all of the technical details of a handset named the  LG LS990. Seeing as the G2 bore the model number LS980  when released as a Sprint handset, it’s pretty safe to presume that we’re dealing with the G3.

First, the basics: it’s 4G LTE enabled and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat straight out of the box, of course, and it possesses 32GB standard of in-built storage – although it only supports expansion via microSD up to 64 GB, not 128 GB. It’s also got a fairly standard 13 MP rear camera and 2.1 MP front-facing camera.

Now for the details which actually stand out: First of all, its tremendous  1440Ã’2560, 5.5 inch display. That’s an enormous 534 PPI, nearly 100 PPI denser than the HTC One M8 and over 100 PPI denser than the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Sony Xperia Z2, so it should look sublime. What’s also impressive is that its 2.3 GHz processor will be putting out 3 GB of RAM, something only accomplished by a handful of smartphones so far. If LG can light up the screen adequately and put all of that RAM to good use then the G3 could be a very exciting prospect.

If you’re wondering what it looks like, the rather low-res image at the top of the page is the only reliable pic to have surfaced so far, but with this latest leak we should be seeing a lot more of it in the coming weeks.
