Sony Xperia Z2 won’t be available from carriers in the US

Despite boasting impressive specs, Sony is struggling to get US carriers to embrace its flagship smartphone – the Xperia Z2.

Reports claim that the Japanese electronics giant is struggling to make deals with carriers (that’s mobile network operators to us folks here in the UK) in America.

Consequently, the newly announced Xperia Z2 will only be available in its unlocked, SIM-free form from Sony’s website where users will be required to pay a small fortune for the smartphone. In return, they get the freedom of not being tied down to any contracts.

Although – in most cases – going sim-free is the cheaper option in the long run, the majority of consumers tend to get their phones from mobile operators at subsidised rates on a contract.

The fact that Sony’s flagship won’t be available from any US carrier is a major setback for the Japanese manufacturer, which is struggling to compete with its rivals (such as Samsung and Apple), despite launching some great phones.

Nevertheless, the Sony Xperia Z2 is a powerful Android KitKat-powered smartphone worthy of your attention.

The handset comes with a 5.2-inch full HD screen, IP68-certified dust- and water-resistant body, 20.7-megapixel camera, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core chip, 2GB of RAM, LTE connectivity support and so on.
