With the next-gen console wars officially hotting up this year, Sony is looking to increase its sales by unveiling a virtual reality headset for the Playstation 4.

The accessory, which analysts are comparing to the Oculus Rift, has been discussed in the past but a launch date never materialised.

However, now it seems that Sony is gearing up to unveil the device at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month.

According to TechRadar, “an inside source” at Sony laid hands on what they termed the “helmet”.

The individual told the website that Sony is finally ready to reveal the device to the world.

“The quality and resolution are really, really good,” stated TechRadar’s tipster, adding “People will definitely be impressed with what Sony’s built.”

With rumours that Sony might show off some of the virtual reality games compatible with the ‘helmet’ at E3, it makes sense for the company to unveil the device beforehand and keep that event focused on the software.

Playstation 4 users better mark 17 March on their calendars then – that’s when GDC 2014 takes place in San Francisco, running through to the 21st.
