Samsung mobile and camera divisions merged

Big movements have been made within Samsung today. Both the Samsung Mobile Communications division and Digital Imaging division have been merged together, most likely in an attempt to improve the company’s camera phones.

It speaks volumes about the importance of cameras on smartphones in this day and age. It’s an area that Samsung has dabbled in before with the Galaxy S4 Zoom. That was a camera with a phone built in, essentially. It looked pretty funky.

The company told ET News that it was done to “integrate the technical know-how of the two business divisions into competency for differentiating our smartphones.”

So Samsung Mobile and Camera are now one and the same. What will the fruits of this merger be?
