The Galaxy S will ship with Android OS 2.1 software, with its TouchWiz front-end UI loaded on top.

The phone has a 4-inch Super AM-OLED screen that has technology used on Samsung’s televisions to enable HD viewing and recording.

‘Social Hub’ integrates social networking profiles with contacts, including status updates and alerts. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor, with a 5-megapixel autofocus camera and GPS.

Samsung Mobile Communications Business president and head JK Shin said: “The Android-powered Galaxy S will set a new standard for smartphones. The Galaxy S is the perfect device for people in all corners of the world that want extra edge; to be more effective, productive, better connected, and in tune with their smart life – both personal and professional – all in a very easy and simple way.”

A UK release date and availability details for the handset will be announced in the coming weeks.
