Is a waterproof Galaxy S4 and an S4 Mini on the way from Samsung?

The Korean manufacturers new flagship, the Galaxy S4, hasn’t even launched yet – that kicks off tomorrow – but rumours are circling that a more rugged S4 which will be waterproof are swirling.

CNET UK reported that the company was working on a waterproof and dust proof version of the new device already and that this more rugged handset would be available in a few weeks.

According to Gizmodo, the rumours come from reporters present at the launch of the S4 in the Gulf region, who said that Samsung Gulf president Young Soo Kim, in response to a question about Samsung’s apparent lack of offerings in the water resistant realm, confirmed a rugged version of the S4 would be available soon.

To be honest, the offerings we’ve seen from Samsung – the Galaxy camera, the general array of tablets and handsets and phablets, oh my! – it would make sense that Samsung would try its hand at a waterproof phone – and why not waterproof its new flagship? Already running many of the same hardware specs as the Xperia Z, now Samsung can compete with it directly in the durability/usability arena as well.

Also rumoured to be on the cards is the S4 Mini, with a potential release date of mid-July, after its launch date was reportedly pushed back from May, Sammobile reported.

The site said the manufacturer would release two types of S4 Mini including dual SIM, with a 4.3″ display, 8MP camera running on Android 4.2.2.  The dual SIM S4 Mini was expected to have a dual core processor, compared with the one SIM card version, which would pack a four core processor, Sammobile reported.

S4 launches tomorrow
