RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 comes to iOS as the first mobile-exclusive game in the series

If there’s any series which can transcend generational and demographical barriers within the world of videogaming, it’s surely RollerCoaster Tycoon. It’s crazy to think that the iconic title first made its debut 15 whole years ago, but its charms haven’t wavered in the slightest.

It’s a sign of the times then that just one week after its crystal anniversary the series has released its first ever mobile-exclusive title. The aptly named RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 Mobile is out now on iOS. The concept remains the same: manage your isometric, animated theme park, building candy floss stands and toilets as you go (and maybe a rollercoaster or two).

The game is priced at a seemingly reasonable £1.99, but eyebrows were raised when it was announced that it would also support in-app purchases for premium currency and the like. We’ll have to wait and see just how the community reacts to the concept – freemium is evil enough, but to charge for a title  and  include all the nasty freemium elements? That might just be a step too far.
