Research In Motion’s ticker symbols will change on the NASDAQ as of February 4th.

Come February 4th, the company will trade as “BB” on the Toronto Stock Exchange and “BBRY” on the NASDAQ.

The company’s legal name will not change until shareholders vote for the official change at the Annual General Meeting later in the year.

The company announced the re-naming at this week’s launch of its new operating system, BlackBerry 10, where it also released two new handsets to the market, the Z10 and Q10 (for What Mobile’s first look at the Z10 go here.   Stay tuned for our full review in the March issue of What Mobile magazine).

The launch has been billed as a possible come back for BlackBerry, which has had a run of issues in recent years.

However, it seems people aren’t yet convinced the company could make a turn around. Analysis from Crimson Hexagon of the conversations on Twitter about the new OS found that 20% of users were still sceptical about BlackBerry’s future.

The company used its social media analysis platform, ForSight, which had close to 200 billion posts stores in its database and analyses about 300 million new posts per day, the company said.   In total, 14, 216 relevant Twitter posts were analysed, it said.

Twenty four percent of users thought BlackBerry was still playing catch up to other mobile devices in the market, with 19% saying they had no interest in BlackBerry 10.   Four percent intended to buy a new BB10 handset, 13% said the new handsets look impressive, while 2% felt BlackBerry had “copied everyone else.”   In total, 18% of users shared news stories relating to BlackBerry.
