Our HTC 10 bug was caused by Tinder

You may remember a story we posted a couple of weeks ago, where we discovered a potentially fatal bug in our HTC 10.

Turns out that HTC replaced the device, only for the bug to rear its ugly head again on the new handset. After a lot of troubleshooting and memory checking, we managed to isolate the issue to a rogue application that doesn’t seem to agree with the new flagship. It seems that Tinder is the root cause of the issue and the problem is happening every time the application crashes (which is a lot). These appear to cause the system memory to slowly swell uncontrollably which, over time, means that the device will reach it’s maximum memory limit.

As far as we could tell, the only way to fix the issue was a complete uninstall of the application. Even leaving it dormant on your device can cause issues. We reached out to HTC for comment who said “they will not be providing a comment on this occasion”.

So if there’s any HTC 10 users out there enjoying the Tinder application, we recommend you delete it immediately. Perhaps get a dedicated Tinder phone that you can hide away…
