Orange has been named the number one operator for mobile gaming with the biggest market share for downloads and revenues.

According to figures released by ELSPA (The Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association), the operator gained a market share of 23 per cent for downloads and 25 per cent for revenues. Games such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Monopoly were the most popular among Orange’s customer base.

The operator said a key factor in its success was down to the strong partnerships it forged with software developers including Electronic Arts, Gameloft and Glu. It added that over 30 per cent of its mobile gaming revenues streamed from pre-installed demos on signature devices, such as the Sony Ericsson W910i and Samsung F480.

Orange UK head of games and gambling Neil Holroyd said: “We’re delighted with taking the top spot for mobile gaming in 2008 and are already making great strides to make sure we stay there in 2009. We’re making enhancements to our embedded games, and giving our Orange World gaming channel a new look and feel – customers can look forward to a slicker experience and improved graphics.”
