The Oculus Rift hits UK shops this September as the the Facebook owned VR headset finally sees some shelf action, priced at £549.

The Facebook owned VR headset dubs itself as “the future of entertainment,” well you don’t have to go too far into the future to get your hands on the Oculus Rift. Today Oculus confirmed the Oculus Rift will retail for £549 in-stores on September 20th. The VR headset has been available for pre-order for quite some time now, at £499, that price is without the massive shipping costs.

Oculus Rift hits UK stores

Plenty of high street stores will be stocking the Rift: John Lewis, Curry’s PC World, GAME, and department store Harrods. With every Oculus Rift comes free game Lucky’s Tale, a VR platforming gaming (get the vomit bag ready). There are hundreds of free VR films and 3D 360 videos to peruse, whether they’re worth your time is a subjective matter (it’s a no from us, cool at first though).

If you’re still on the fence about the Oculus Rift and VR as a whole, you can check out demo pods across the UK. The pods will be at retail locations yet to be confirmed. To impress the masses, the following software will be available in the pods: The Climb, Henry, Farlands and Oculus Dreamdeck.

Oculus pioneered virtual reality technology, having started as a Kickstarter project in 2012 subsequently raising $2.5 million. It caught Mark Zuckerberg’s attention as Facebook purchased Oculus for $2 billion in 2012.

The Rift sports an OLED display with 1080 x 1200 resolution per eye, 90Hz refresh rate and 110 degree field of vision. It boasts advanced specs compared to the Samsung Gear VR, but comparable to the impressive and equally expensive, HTC Vive.

Will you be passing through the Rift this Autumn? Let is know in the comments.
