Speeds outside of London will gradually be increased to 7.2Mbps in early 2009.

The increased speed is officially down as a trial, and will be limited to certain areas of the capital. O2 users that connect to an HSDPA enabled base station currently get speeds of 3.6Mbps – although many HSDPA enabled handsets sold during 2008 will only work at 3.6Mbps even when the network is upgraded.
