After Samsung beat Nokia to first place in total number of phones sold in the Finnish smartphone market, Nokia could soon reclaim the top spot — according to a survey by YLE News.
The survey asked 1000 finnish people which phone they will buy next, with the majority of those responding that they are planning on purchasing a phone from homegrown giant, Nokia.
49% of respondents chose Nokia, when compared to just 19% of current market leader Samsung. Apple was in third place with just 10%.
If this sounds like a mighty revival then you might want to compare these results to those of 2011, when 68% of Finnish people surveyed wanted a Nokia phone.
Nokia can’t even seem to persuade the young Finns to adopt their smartphones, with much of the younger generation responding that they wanted an Apple iPhone, whilst the older generation picked up the slack for Nokia phones — with 43% of those wanting a Nokia phone.
Interestingly, Finnish farmers were particularly fond of Samsung’s phones — which we’re not sure why, although it may have something to do with the inability to play FarmVille on Windows Phone.
HTC, LG, ZTE and Huawei were no where to be seen on the chart, but they could have been included within the “other” category, which according to the surveyors — 4% of people selected.
It’s not been an easy few years for Nokia, with its worldwide market share plummeting and being forced to abandon the operating system that had helped it get to the top.
We could be seeing the beginning of a completely revived Nokia, with the company innovating faster than ever — including the much-desired new Lumia 1020.
Whether or not Nokia can reclaim the world as well as Finland remains to be seen, after all it seems like an upwards battle for the company who has been urged by its customers and shareholders to build Android phones rather than ones based on the Windows Phone operating system.
