New Samsung Exynos has crazy performance

Benchmarks for the new Exynos chip have shown up on a popular Chinese social media website, posing strong results.

Samsung’s upcoming Exynos processor will debut with an entirely new architecture dubbed ‘Mongoose’ and if recent benchmarks are anything to go by, it will be an absolute monster. A new image obtained from Chinese social media website Weibo shows the Mongoose being tested at an eye-watering speed of 2.3GHz per-core. Single-core benchmarks put it just behind the Apple A9 chip found in the iPhone 6s/6s Plus, while the muli-core performance unsurprisingly blazes it by over 2,500 points. To put this into perspective, the current Samsung Galaxy S6 scores just 1,315 in single-core and 4,392 in multi-core tasks.

Another one of the main features which is the perhaps the centrepiece of Mongoose, is power efficiency. The chip will be able to run in various states in order to save juice, similar to the recent technologies employed by rival processor manufacturers. The Weibo leak also included results for these, showing two states of ‘Power Saving’ and ‘Ultra Power Saving ‘. There seems to be just over a 50% performance decrease when using the chip in it’s most energy efficient mode.
