Amazon has finally added to the affordable Kindle line after a two year hiatus. The new Kindle is thinner with an increase in specs but not in price.
The new Kindle is thinner, a damn slim device that will surely delight book worms everywhere, including us. The new Kindle will join the Kindle Oasis in the 8th generation of Kindle e-readers. It will be the first Kindle to feature in white, instead of the standard charcoal black, since the Kindle Keyboard.
The feature we’re all keen for is the price, the Paperwhite will retail at £59.99, a rentention of its predecessor’s price with improved specs. It will have double the RAM for a smoother interface, not to mention lighter with chamfered edges for comfort. There’s a touchscreen onboard just like the 2014 model. Amazon are boasting weeks of battery life but are keeping hush in regards to a specific number.
The new Kindle is thinner but what else is new?
It will be the first Kindle to support built-in bluetooth audio, making it possible for visually impaired users to use the VoiceView screen reader on Kindle to read the content of the screen’including reading books and other Kindle content’without the need for an adaptor.
Visually impaired users can start reading out of the box using a pair of bluetooth earphones or speakers. Amazon aren’t the only ones helping out the visually impaired.
Another new feature is the ability to export notes on the fly. You can now easily highlight sections form books and added to your emails for those all important footnotes in your thesis.
The changes are slight but significant to those who take their reading game seriously, you’ll appreciate how the new Kindle is thinner with increased memory. The slight changes however might be tempting to those who are still carrying their battered five year old Kindle, which has been the victim of many sudden bag drops on the tube.
